Well, class blog is so dead.
And it's been a long time since we had a class outing. So, we'll be having an adhoc outing at beauty world there tmr. There's a shop with lan, arcade and pool, so there should be something for everyone. I think it requires membership, should be $2 bah, so not a big deal. It's ok if not all the ppl can make it coz this is kinda rush, I doubt we can find a day when the whole class can go anyways, so just try to go. But there should be a better planned class outing some time later. ;)

Here are the details for tmr:
Date & Venue: 31st April at beauty world
Time: 11am (tentative, it's ok to go later also)

30 hour famine (!)

the 30 hour famine's coming up again this year. this time its from june 5 to june 6, friday to saturday. its basically no food for 30 hours, but you will be provided drinks to supplement yourselves if you feel the need to. (you definitely wont go hungry.) there will be activities, games, groupwork, community involvement projects, and exhibitions on this year's theme (“I Can. I Will. Make A Difference”; HIV/AIDS-related). and this year, somehow it starts at ACS (Barker) but ends at D'Marquee, Downtown East with a concert.

there is the same fee as last year: $30 camp fee. (to be submitted via check to World Vision International) also, a registration form to be signed by your parents. both are to be mailed to the office directly, or submitted personally. but should you want to sign up, i'll act as coordinator for our class if the school does not, or some students dont come up like they did last year. i'll check with the school asap to see if there will be a school signup first, will keep you guys informed.

besides signing up as a participant, there is the choice of signing up as a volunteer: group leader, stations i/cs etc. but as details are not up yet, i have no idea as to which posts they have, and how many training sessions you have to go for (yes, you do have to go for training sessions for these volunteer posts).

yupyup. thats all about this event. strongly recommend you to join, especially since (enlin and) i went last year and experienced it firsthand. $30 may be a bit much, but start saving now and it would work out. =) please try to go!

stj will confirm be held on 11th April from 4 to 10 XD venue is at my house, which is near bukit panjang there.. erm.. for a bit of information, 24/26 juniors are confirm going! with one tentative =D so... hahas i'm sure it's going to be very exciting :D

Before the school term starts on 12th Jan (2nd week of term), here are some updates. :]

Also, these are some important dates in the school calendar:

1. J1s come in 2nd Feb, they have 2 weeks of orientation
2. Senior class meet Junior class is around the 9th to the 15th Feb
3. CNY -- senior classes would be putting up stalls
4. Dramafeste would be on 5th-6th March
5. Blocks 1 are held early in March

Our Class Logo and just maybe...our Class T-shirt

Hi 08s73 =),
I've come up with two tentative designs for our class logo which if agreed upon could be used for our class T-shirts. The first is the more serious of the options while the other is more "vibrant". Forgive me if they're not really that impressive...created it within an hour using flash 8 in the wee hours of the morning. Please send me any comments on the design or the colours of the logo through msn (Can't really decide on a colour that is universally liked by both genders) and as you do that, you may want to help me figure out the "special characteristic" that everyone in our class all share...I'm still having trouble identifying that. At the mean time, if any of you guyz/galz have alternative designs, feel free to email them to me.

Funny for public property to be destroyed by 'elite' student?

A STOMPer came across this picture of a student with a bent signpost, as if the latter was in the act of vandalising it, and he is concerned that students these days are too caught up in the paper chase and are not learning the right things.

Perry wrote, in his email to STOMP:

"I came across this picture showing a student destroying and showing off what seems to be the remains of a street sign. I request for a clarification and discussion upon the action of this student clad in the uniform of what I believe to be of Hwa Chong Institution which was renowned for its history of nurturing great academic leaders in the local scene.

"The question I had in mind was, does having higher education eventually make the students lose the fundamental values which we are thought to be possessing?

"The showboating of destroyed public property seems to very much amuse the person in the picture.

"Aren’t we told at a very young age that every single of us should partake in the effort of protecting public properties? I am rather intrigued by the mindset of such student and what are the motivating factors which result in such insightful actions.

"Is it a wrong move by the Singapore government, or should I say that is it a wrong move of mankind to focus more on the mathematics and sciences which were deemed as more important and possesses higher priority then moral education? I believed we had made a wrong move and we are witnessing the negative impacts of academic education without a basis on moral education first.

"For example, the formal chairman of the National Kidney Foundation was charged with inappropriate usage of the funds. Think of how much academic qualification he had achieved before he took on the mantle of leadership of the NKF.

"I believed many of us had witnessed students misbehaving in public.

"Students loitering under void decks after school; making a nuisance out of themselves by littering and making noise.

"Underage smoking, sex and alcohol consumption has become common and the abnormality of this issue is that no strong movement against such acts had been seen. For example, During January and February, 1,164 people under the age of 18 were nabbed for underage smoking, more than the 1,113 caught in the first two months of last year and 1,069 in 2006. There are an increasing number of offenders.

"No obvious resistance about such moral issues was seen is it because only the academic results of the kids count? Are our character determined by the number of “A”s we scores? Is such degradation of moral thinking resulted from the academic driven society?"

No doubt there are teenagers who are committing the things of which you have stated but using an isolated example as a the final example to your conclusion of grades chasing > character building is flawed.

Hello people,

Whilst promos are in a matter of weeks (study hard/pure mug/revise!!), and WR submission coincides with the GP paper (lets get As together), and the triple SPAs to study for, do take sufficient rest; there are already 2 people sick. Do your best, it doesn't matter what grade you get.

After we have gotten the grades we desire, there is a class outing our welfare reps and other sporting individuals have been planning for. Then, there is also FOS, which we would maintain our faculty's lead by high participation rates, even if we may not win the games. And finally, Apollo Faculty Outing 2!! (more details released later).

These activities are meticulously planned and i am sure it is a great deal of fun:) However, these are still ancillary to the promos we are going to take in a few weeks time, so study hard and we'll be able to enjoy life later. yupps :>

Its almost 2am, and you must be wondering why i am still awake. Thats because i reached home late and just finished my EoM draft 2. Gah!

Anyways, this post is regarding an interesting idea Jiali suggested during PW discussion haha. The idea is to to help SPCA take care of their animals for half a day. Pek Yee added that this can be a class SL project. Personally, i think this idea is quite cool and it is rather feasible, so tell me if you are interested :D

I would think that if you guys want to go down as a class (which is more meaningful), i can propose this to the school as a class initiated CIP activity, then we'll all benefit :/

Format:
1. Less than 16 players/teams, grouping with round robin.
2. More than 16 players/teams, straight knock out.
3. Students may participate in more than one of the following
categories: male singles/doubles; female singles/doubles; mix
doubles.
4. All knock out matches will be best of 5 games (first to win 3
games win the match). All round robin matches will be best of 3
games (race to 2).
Scoring system:
1. All the players will win 1 participation point each for their
CTs.
2. Three points will be awarded for the winner’s CT in every
match. For winning doubles formed from different CTs, 2 points will
be awarded to each CT.
3. At the end of the competition, the CT with the most points will
be awarded the best performing CT. Amazing prizes will be awarded to
the champions of all categories as well as the best performing CT.

yeah. it's friday again man. don't you all think time zooms? it seems like ytd when we did the melon,banana, grapes, orange thing at our last week ct session.

anyway, for the imh thing, i don't think there's alot of ppl going. but if you are, rmb to download the indemnity form from smb as you have to get it signed from your parents and hand it in by 12 May, which is next monday

for csi, it is a competition of ppl detecting and solving crimes. time is from 6am to 12.30pm, at old police academy, which is near st joseph institution, which can be reachable by 105 132 151 153 154 156 186 190 700 960. and there is actually a prize presentation from 1.30pm to 3pm, but hmm.. can heck care that?? so besides daryl who don't seem to be able to make it and marvin seems abit sian diao, i think the other people who have expressed interest are still going right. if you are going, you also have to dl indemnity form from smb, or can photocopy from mine (bwahahaha, i told daryl to help me print). i'll do the registration as a group. dateline of submitting indenmity form is 14 May, next wed.

1) YOU’RE WANTED – TERM 2 CIP DAY

In conjunction with the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), the CIP Exco is organizing a painting cum interaction session at IMH and we want YOU! The event is set on Term 2 Week 9, 17th (Sat) &18th (Sun) May at shifts of 8am – 12pm and 1pm – 5pm and on 19th May (Mon) from 2pm - 6pm. Light refreshments will be provided for all 3 days. Volunteers will be required to paint (white-wash) wards and there will be interaction with the patients at the IMH as well.

deadline: 12 May

we can sign up as a group to do together, so if you are interested, tag the board!! or tell me.

2) CSI SINGAPORE 2008 “THE REAL SEARCH”

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) is organising a one day competition CSI SINGAPORE 2008 “THE REAL SEARCH” aimed at allowing JC1 students to have a first-hand knowledge on the use of Police forensics and linking tools and eventually applying them to solve the crime which is posed to them, students work in teams to compete with other schools in this game of wit, skills, intelligence and time management.

to make it less messy, another post on the 30 hour famine. info, etc.

its a 2-day camp, 14-15 june 2008. the price is $30 (increased. T.T), inclusive of activities, food and refreshments throughout the 30 hours. games and simulations of global poverty will be held throughout the 30 hours, and there will be a local community service project held on the second day. after the 30 hours, everyone will break fast together.

we can sign up with our school (i'll ask mrs chua about it), or sign up ourselves. regardless, the price will remain at $30 (unless by some miracle the school can subsidise, which i think is impossible). however, we can also sign up (individually) as game masters (17 and above) or general helpers (15 and above); if so, you must be free on 31/5, sat for game masters (for pre-camp training), and on the actual camp dates, 14-15/6, sat-sun, FULL DAY.

additional details: co-organiser, ACS (Barker Road). and the actual website is at 30 Hour Famine Camp 2008. and i have no idea where the location is.

yup. i really encourage everyone to take part in this event, as its quite meaningful.

This wednesday is CSM, and we (apollo) would be competing with other faculties in the CHEERING competition. The thing is, we can spare our voices (esp when i have already lost mine after guitar concert T.T) by using water bottles are noise makers.

anything that can make ALOT of noise (optional)

haha. yeah. i see new posts~. er. today is a notes day as can be seen from the files we have that is bursting. so i've note down the notes (woo, NOTE: NOTE down the NOTES. wow.) we are supposed to receive and sophia and anying can take note (woo, another "note". oh man, i have limited vocab) of them too.

yeah. i forget what i wanna post about man. er. firstly, FOOD.

aiya, i don't know how to turn the image. so ya, that's jiali treating us kit kat and oreo, combined with sheryl. so on the left sidebar, their name is no longer bold-ed.

and for econs test. er. 8th position. that will be the ppl who get 11/20? i think it's like half the class getting the same score. so let's let (oo double word) the first treat. and that would be...... jiali. hahaha. jkjk. maybe we should just get money from the class fund. or we forget about econs test lah. and we start a new cycle again. lalala, you can see my reluctance of having the 8th in econs test to treat. anyway, it's really getting difficult to track (i rmb i last time use the word "dig", hmm, "track" is a better word). so i put up a poll (more interaction) for you all to poll to see whether you all want until the 9th or just end at 5th. oo poll is good, cos it tests the feasibility and manageability. poll will end when the next test results is announced.

After the class fund absorbed part of JTS expenditure and spent loads of money on GP the Bio enzymes notes, we are once again left with $9. Now, this 9 bucks cannot last us through next week, as we have new maths notes to collect which amounts to probably $50+. Then still nid to pay GP $12 per person. Hm...im not too sure wad this is for, but i think its for the notes. So yup, i plan to collect $20 from all of you (including me)on Monday. Thanks and remember to bring the money hor. If not i cannot collect Maths notes and pay for ____________......

Can some1 update every1 on when we have extra lessons, etc? Greatly appreciated, thanks.

JTS financial matters

On behalf of money man........i'm helping him post financial matters.

JTS expenditure was a whooping $600!!!!. $300 is covered by the voucher, so we paid another $300, so it is still acceptable. Food was good (esp my black pepper chicken which took 40 mins to come), games were fun (esp falling tower of pizza) and it was rather successful.

Our class fund is now at $50, so we need to pay the people who came up with the excess $300 today. So.....remember to bring $20 on Monday and pay direct to money-man --- he would repay the respective people and the extra $60 would be added to class fund.

Many tests coming up...dont forget about SPA too. AND FINISH ALL MATH TUTORIALS before math class hehe. GP file..get ready by Monday (newsweeks completed).
